270 Robson Street, Vancouver (Downtown) I have never really had ramen before, so I was excited when Eivan had suggested that we go for ramen. Apparently ramen is even more enjoyable when it's super cold outside, so going on one of the colder nights was definitely a good choice (I think..) Jinya Ramen Bar has many locations all over the United States from the West Coast to the Midwest, as well as two Vancouver locations. We hit up the location on Robson and Hamilton Downtown. Not really know what to order and what to expect (as I had only been to ramen one other time before), Eivan suggested that I try their Jinya Tonkatsu Black, which has a lot of ingredients - too many to name - but overall incredibly yummy. Perfect for a cold and dreary Vancouver night! The thing with ramen places is that they are small and incredibly popular. That combination in itself means that there are usually long line ups, whether it is dinner time or not. If you want to give Jinya Ramen bar a shot, or any other ramen place for that matter, then I hope you have a lot of patience!

12771 7 Avenue, Richmond Fish and chips has never really been something that would come to mind for lunch. This all changed when I spent the afternoon with an old friend and visited Steveston for the first time in years. Typical of a town right by the sea, there are plenty of fish and chips places around, though I was assured by my friend that Pajo's was the better one on the wharf. And with multiple locations all over Metro Vancouver, I agree with him! As mentioned above, I don't eat fish and chips that often so I really have nothing to compare to. But there is something about eating fish and chips right by the water under the summer sun, even if it was sprinkling rain just a bit. It's a very popular place as well, so the lineups are long. At least it gives you plenty of time to decide what you want!
10241 King George Blvd, Surrey TASTE: 5/5 SERVICE: 2/5 PRICE: $ This has been a bucket list place all throughout high school just because of the mere fact that everyone seemed to talk about this place and everyone would go there for lunch or dinner. When I finally had dinner at Sushi and Roll for the first time, I could see why. Sushi and Roll, located in Surrey right by Surrey Central Skytrain station, is actually much larger on the inside than it looks on the outside. It is always packed for lunch and dinner, so sometimes the wait for a table is long (especially since they are understaffed), and for the food as well. However, once you do get a table and you have ordered, you are in for a real treat. True to any other Vancouver sushi restaurant, you have your typical California rolls and Nigiri sushi, tempura and noodles galore. When I go to sushi places with friends, I usually order a few rolls and everyone shares, for variety's sake. Of all the sushi places that I have gone to around the city, Sushi and Roll has the most interesting specialty rolls. Some of my favorites include the cheesy roll, OMG roll, Flying Unicorn roll and the PS I Love You roll.. but you can figure out what they are like when you go! I think the best part about Sushi and Roll (and the reason as to why I keep going back time and time again) is the fact that the prices are really cheap - for example, the meal above for three people came to a bill under $20, which for three people is exceptionally cheap! Go check it out and do your wallet a favor! |
