350 Robson Street, Vancouver (Downtown)
I am a big pizza fanatic, and having passed Straight Outta Brooklyn Pizzeria numerous times, I decided to give it a try. And I am so glad that I did! My friend Emma and I went to hit up SOBP during our downtown date and we walked into their cozy and homey storefront on Robson Street, right across from the Vancouver Public Library. Upon entry you are greeted with so many delicious scents: cheese, tomatoes, meats and spices - all of which culminate the beautiful pizzas that are on display and ready for you to try! We went for two classics - Margarita and Spice (which had spicy salami, and according to Emma, a lot of heat!) The pizza was really good - you could taste the freshness of the ingredients. It was perfectly made and not too salty. The only downside to Emma's Spice was the pooling oil at the top, potentially from sitting in the display. Otherwise, it was delicious pizza, and it definitely satisfied my pizza craving! Individual slices start at $3.50 where as whole pizzas start at $13. Go get a slice of Brooklyn and give this pizza joint a try!

8410 160th Street. Surrey (Fleetwood)
A cozy community spot in the middle of Fleetwood, Edith & Arthur is part of the successful Joseph Richard Group of public houses and pubs in the Langley and Surrey area. I had been to Edith & Arthur a few times, mostly for brunch. One of the best kept secrets in the Fleetwood area is the fact that the brunch is super cheap; in fact, the menu runs through all of the establishments in the JR Group, so you can go to any one of their locations to have a super delicious and affordable brunch! Breakfast/brunch is my favourite meal, and this is a great place to go and enjoy great company and some delicious food! All of the breakfast items are $6, with the exception of The Classic Breakfast which is $4. The first time I went to Edith & Arthur, I had the delicious Southwestern Skillet, which was the perfect amount of food and I loved the hashbrowns that were in it. I also had a wonderful brunch with my friends and had a Meat Lover's omelette, and that was just as good! The cool thing about Edith & Arthur also is that they have a few games for patrons to play, like Jenga, Apples to Apples and Scrabble. Their regular food is pretty decent, though a little pricey for small portions. Given that Edith & Arthur is so close, I see myself frequenting this place in the future, most likely for brunch!

Who doesn't love a good taco? If you are in need of an authentic Mexican street tacos, La Taqueria is your solution to your cravings. With plenty of meat and vegetarian options to choose from, there is something for everyone. And while some of the fillings are more on the adventurous side of things, the wait is super quick, the presentation is beautiful and the taste is incredible. In a tiny shop on West Hastings, the smells of spices fill the room. The staff are incredibly friendly and share their experience with you. They know each taco inside and out, so whether you are looking for something basic, spicy, or wanting to take a step on the wild side, they can help you find your fit. You can get 4 meat tacos for $9.50 and 4 veggie tacos for $7.50 and mix and match. After all, who says that you just have to stick to one filling? I personally had the Al Pastor (marinated pork), pescado (fish), and two tinga de hongos (sauteed mushrooms). While I have no idea what any of that means, I do know that it was super delicious and that I highly recommend La Taqueria! 12 Powell Street, Vancouver (Gastown)
This place is awesome. Bao Down in Gastown is described on Yelp as "Asian Fusion" known for it's "twist on traditional Asian Bao". In case you aren't familiar with bao, it is a type of steamed bun that Chinese have for tea or breakfast. They usually have various fillings in them such as custard, red bean or meat (but not together, because that would be weird). With attention grabbing names like Two Worlds Collide!!! and Bao Chicka Bao Bao, Bao Down created a new spin on a classic Asian dish. I had the Jaws Bao, which had coconut crusted Vietnamese catfish, kimchi tartar sauce, Thai vinaigrette tossed cabbage and microgreens. It definitely is the perfect size for a snack or a light dinner. Also, if you are a Yelper, make sure you check in to get the Bao Beignets for free! (Because who doesn't love free things?) NEW: check out their new and expanded location in False Creek: Bao Down Gastropub & Raw Bar. 1565 Commercial Drive, Vancouver
TASTE: 3/5 SERVICE: 4/5 PRICE: $ If you are a big fan of $4.95 food (think the likes of The Warehouse or The Factory), then here is another place to add to your list. The Dime Roadhouse (or simply, The Dime) on Commercial Drive is yet another cheap eat with tons of character and yummy food. The Dime's menu consists of $4.95 food items - anything from a standard "The Dime" burger to butternut squash risotto with goat cheese. The mix of comfort food, pub food and casual "fancy" food was a refreshing change that sets itself apart from its other $4.95 food doppelgangers. However, despite the difference in menu, the best parts remain the same: chill vibes, friendly staff, fun atmosphere and super cheap food! The one thing about this place (as compared to others) is it's location: it is a ways away from Commercial-Broadway Skytrain station, so I do suggest taking a bus... the #20. If anyone knows Vancouver transit inside out, you'll know that it's kind of a scary bus. Shout out to Jamie for joining me on this foodie adventure! 15 West Cordova Street, Vancouver (Gastown)
TASTE: 5/5 SERVICE: 4/5 PRICE: $ Craving tacos? I was too, and that's why I went to Tacofino. The successful taco and burrito shop got it's start in Tofino and quickly brought it's unique Baja style tacos to Vancouver. Aside from it's Vancouver storefront in Gastown, Tacofino also boasts its colorful trucks which can be found all over the city. With a burrito bar and taco bar open on either side of the restaurant, there are plenty of different food drinks options, regardless of what you are craving. Eleanor and I both decided to have tacos - a classic fish taco for myself with Pacific cod, salsa fresca and chipotle mayo, and a unique potato, mushroom and collard greens taco for my sister in a corn shell. The flavours were really full and delicious, bringing fresh ingredients with unique combinations of flavours. Everything was delicious and the service was quick and great. My only piece of advice would be to probably get more than one taco, depending on how hungry you are. While one was delicious, one definitely wasn't enough! With cute decor, multiple delicious options and quick and friendly service, Tacofino is definitely a top pick of mine for taco cravings! 10241 King George Blvd, Surrey TASTE: 5/5 SERVICE: 2/5 PRICE: $ This has been a bucket list place all throughout high school just because of the mere fact that everyone seemed to talk about this place and everyone would go there for lunch or dinner. When I finally had dinner at Sushi and Roll for the first time, I could see why. Sushi and Roll, located in Surrey right by Surrey Central Skytrain station, is actually much larger on the inside than it looks on the outside. It is always packed for lunch and dinner, so sometimes the wait for a table is long (especially since they are understaffed), and for the food as well. However, once you do get a table and you have ordered, you are in for a real treat. True to any other Vancouver sushi restaurant, you have your typical California rolls and Nigiri sushi, tempura and noodles galore. When I go to sushi places with friends, I usually order a few rolls and everyone shares, for variety's sake. Of all the sushi places that I have gone to around the city, Sushi and Roll has the most interesting specialty rolls. Some of my favorites include the cheesy roll, OMG roll, Flying Unicorn roll and the PS I Love You roll.. but you can figure out what they are like when you go! I think the best part about Sushi and Roll (and the reason as to why I keep going back time and time again) is the fact that the prices are really cheap - for example, the meal above for three people came to a bill under $20, which for three people is exceptionally cheap! Go check it out and do your wallet a favor!
