122 West Hastings Street, Vancouver (Gastown) I finally made it to Catch 122 Bistro's brunch!! One of the few places offering brunch throughout the week in the city, Catch 122 did not disappoint. With a rustic charm to its decor, it felt like walking home and having amazing food. I was able to reunite with two long time friends (and fellow foodies) for a girls day out brunch. Pushing my legality I indulged in a mango mimosa and paired that with the Catch 122 - scrambled eggs, house-smoked salmon with dill creme-fraiche in a croissant alongside an arugala salad and Yukon potato nuggets. All of the brunch items are $12 and sound so good - it was a difficult choice to make, but it smelled so good in there that it's probably safe to say that anything you order is great! If you're craving brunch during the week, check out Catch 122 - it's less crowded! All the same, definitely make a reservation through opentable.com to ensure that you have a seat for your weekend brunch!

Who doesn't love brunch? A cozy nook that serves all day brunch, Twisted Fork Bistro has made a name for itself in the city as one of the best places to go for brunch. Open from 8-3 every day, Twisted Fork serves up brunch classics like frittata and eggs benny with fresh ingredients and a twist. My family and I went on a weekday morning to celebrate my parents' wedding anniversary. Each of the main food items are $14.50 (and that's tax included!), and you have a choice of wide variety of breakfast and lunch items. We had the Chorizo Frittata, Banana stuffed brioche French Toast, Eggs Benny with Maple sausage and a Croque Monsieur, which is a ham and Gruyere cheese sandwich with their homemade tomato dipping sauce. Everything was delicious and came out relatively quick. The restaurant is very cozy and intimate, with a lot of couches and soft throw pillows. Its's kind of like eating brunch at your own house, but way cooler. The one thing you want to watch out for is the fact that because of the small size of the restaurant and it's popularity, the wait can be upwards of an hour for a table. Twisted Fork does not take reservations, so definitely keep that in mind if and when you go. Having said that, Twisted Fork has delicious brunch food that is worth the wait. 780 Richards Street, Vancouver Cafe Medina has been on my radar for a very, very long time, and the other day I finally made it with Elaine! The iconic pale blue sign stood in front of us as we patiently waited patiently for our turn past the glass doors. As I had been reading the menu for hours on end before we went, I quickly learned that Cafe Medina's stamp of identity came from their Mediterranean style cuisine and homemade Belgian waffles. Placed at the bar with the waffle heater in full view, we were greeted by very cheerful baristas and waitresses, who told us that the waffles were a must - an enlarged amuse-bouche, if you will - and was definitely the best way to start off our brunch service. The Liege-style waffles were incredible, with a nice sugary crunch on the outside and a warm and soft center. The treat was the dipping sauces that came with it: milk chocolate lavender for myself, and peach and bourbon butterscotch for Elaine. Shortly after came our brunch entrees, both of which were delicious, timely, and fresh with a Mediterranean twist. The portions were manageable and beautifully presented, and it kept me wanting more! The pictures below don't do it justice, but I recommend that you go and give it a try! Despite the fact that Cafe Medina is open from 9-3, the growing popularity of it creates long line ups and waits of upwards of two hours. My suggestion is to get there as early as possible, and if you can't get there earlier, then wait it out - it definitely is worth it! |
